To celebrate the milestone, Hanes offers a unique set of Michael Jordan trading cards. The 2018-19 Fleer Hanes Michael Jordan 30th Anniversary basketball cards are produced by The Upper Deck Company and made available exclusively through over 800,000 specially marked packs of Hanes underwear found at retail chains like Wal-Mart and Target.
The set contains 170 cards, each featuring a picture of Michael Jordan from one of his Hanes ads and fun facts printed on the reverse.1 The cards are available in packs of 5 with two pack styles and collectors will need to buy many of each to finish the set.
Given the makeup of the packs and the set size, unless you’re buying blocks of these on eBay, you’re going to have to buy a lot of underwear.
The base set fittingly mimics the original design of 1988 Fleer basketball and has two different parallels. Red parallels are found about 1 per pack, while Blue parallels are found about 1 every three packs.
In addition to the base set, an All-Star set was produced. The base cards are found about 1 every two packs, while Gold parallels are found about 1 every ten packs.
The All-Star cards have a holofoil overlay and are reminisce of the classic design some collectors will remember from 30 years prior.
Of the over 800,000 packs produced, just 10 contain a Michael Jordan autographed card making it one of the rarest signed cards ever made available through packs.
