1989 Topps is another excellent set from the overproduced Junk Wax Era. It features all the classic guys many of us followed growing up. In terms of error count, it’s pretty modest overall and includes some variations. All errors that were later corrected are stated in the checklist below.
Regarding the Future Stars Subset:
There are a variety of cropping variations in the 1989 Topps Future Stars subset. While they’re not stated in the following checklist, they’re subtle but pronounced enough to be noticed when comparing different copies of the same card. The Gary Sheffield, for example, has three unique variations.

What’s Not Included in this Checklist:
- Uncorrected Errors (UERs): These include minor typos on card backs and/or fronts. Since these cards were never corrected, they’re just the standard cards in the set.
- Blank/Wrong Fronts/Backs: Examples beyond what’s stated are manufacturing scrap and weren’t issued in packs.
