1971 Topps is a 752-card set with standard 2.5″x3.5″ dimensions. Its highly condition sensitive black boarders make this set nearly impossible to build in high grade. To illustrate further, of the nearly 290k examples slabbed by PSA at the time of this writing, most of them fall in the 6-8 grade assignments and just 242 have achieved the Gem Mint 10 grade. A particularly interesting feature of this set is that the backs include black-and-white player head shots. About half of the cards in the high numbers run (644-752) are short-printed. This set was released in 54-card rack packs at $0.39/ea. Notable RCs include: Dave Concepcion, Ted Simmons, Bert Blyleven, Steve Garvey, the dual Dusty Baker/Don Baylor card, George Foster, Greg Luzinski, and Bob Valentine.
