You wouldn’t think of it to look at a guy had you not heard of him but this shorter-than-average ballplayer is one of the most decorated to ever have been minted in Cooperstown. While he had a cup of coffee with the New York Mets, Yogi Berra is best known for his time with the New York Yankees where he spent 18 of his 19 professional years. In that time, he made 18 consecutive All-Star appearances, won 3 MVPs, and helped the Yankees win the World Series 10 times, which makes him the most productive player in World Series history.1 Berra caught games along side some of the biggest names in baseball such as, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron.
Offered here is a game-used bat from Yogi Berra’s 1965 season that features some really interesting signs of wear. According to PSA’s John Taube, this B211 Louisville Slugger Bat comes in at 35″ and 32.3oz, and grades out a PSA 9. Since Berra’s final season was 1965, this is one of the last bats he ever used. PSA confirmed Berra ordered this bat sometime between February and April of 1965 and its many signs of wear shows it was used heavily. The bat is peppered with cleat marks, bat rack streaks, and pine tar. All imperfections make this one of the most interesting game used bats from Yogi Berra’s decorated career. That it was issued so late in his career, and while not confirmed, it could very well be the final bat he ever used in his career.
For bat collectors, this late-career game-used Yogi Berra bat would make for a prize addition to any collection. Given the significance of Berra’s career and the historical presentation of this bat, collectors are encouraged to bid aggressively on this one-of-a-kind item.
