This D.Gordon/L.Landry 2011 Bowman Platinum Dual Autographs Red Refractor was one of my last purchases of 2022. I went after it because I’ve always been a Dee Gordon fan. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I used to file cards of his dad, Tom “Flash” Gordon back in my early collecting years when Tom was coming up with the Royals. It was a different time. Now here we are all these years later and his son is featured on some excellent baseball cards. This is one of them.
By late 2011, I was living in LA and while I remember the popularity of 2011 Bowman Platinum, I didn’t buy any packs and it wasn’t until recently that I began buying singles from this release. Given the concept similarities among releases both then and now, some of this stuff can get lost in the shuffle to be either overlooked or forgotten entirely. Essentially, this is the crux of the market and one that requires intentional awareness around which to maneuver to acknowledge card significance. Another way to put it is if you don’t actively seek it out, the seemingly infinite amount of distractions will likely prevent that act from occurring if the card isn’t discovered serendipitously.

The 2011 Bowman Platinum Dual Autographs run is a 10-card set with three unique parallels that features rookie era players. The horizontal design contains sticker autographs with most of the real estate assigned to the autograph but overall they scan really well. The player roster has some notable names. While the base set already has a small print run, the parallels have unsurprisingly become tough to find even online. Given the age of 2011 Bowman Platinum, opportunities to find most of the Red Refractors and Superfractors have all but dried up. Saved searched are likely to reveal an opportunity here and there but expect those instances to be sparse.
